Day 55: Tue 1 Jul 25 - Howard

Tue 1 Jul 25 - Howard

Weather: 8 to 21 Deg, clear and sunny with moderate SW fresh winds.

We woke to a clear sky and a fresh morning, and a very soggy ground. After breakfast and a few chores, Noel and I (and Olli) drove into Hervey Bay for the day. First stop, coffee in Scarness, then a walk out on the Jetty and along the Esplanade. We then returned to the car and drove 5 km further along the esplanade to Urangan. No dogs allowed, so Noel stayed behind to mind Olli, while I walked the length of the pier (1124m) out and back. There were plenty of people of all ages fishing along the pier, some even catching fish and one bloke with a nice 70cm flathead. There were also large schools of fish to be seen just off the jetty. From here we continued a short distance to the Botanic Gardens where we had a very pleasant walk. The Japanese gardens were nice, but the Orchid  House, apparently with about 20,000 different orchids (I photographed most of them I think), was spectacular - an amazing collection of different orchids. After a late light lunch on the esplanade overlooking the water, we returned to Howard for another evening with our hosts Kev and Jo.
