Wed 04 June 25 - Yeppoon
Weather: 15 to 23 Deg and clear. Stunning weather.
A bit of a change in routine today, with some early chores followed by a coffee at the van then a ride out to the abandoned and dilapidated old Iwasaki / Capricorn Resort a bit over 12 km's out of Yeppoon. Access to nosey buggers like me is denied, so the best I could do was take my drone with me and have a sneaky peak from above. Check out the link for a closer look at what it was once like and how it looked 6 years ago: Abandoned Resort Drone Footage . The article also mentions the protests over its original development and the subsequent bombing in 1980. The resort closed down in 2016 and like the nearby Great Keppel Island Resort, remains abandoned with no future. Very sad. Back in Yeppoon, I found a couple more murals before returning to the van. A quick spruce up, then Noel and I ventured down to the Station 4703 to catch up Ron Niperess an ex Navy Cook friend from more than 30 years ago, and his wife Maz. Ron and Maz are living full time in their van, currently house sitting for 4 months in Rockhampton. We chatted for about 3 hours over lunch and couple of drinks filling each other in on the past 30 odd years - it's fantastic renewing old friendships. Tomorrow, we leave for a few days at Emu Park, and look forward to much quieter surrounds.

Overlooking the Resort with North Keppel Island in the distance. With no access to the resort, the best i could do was a distant drone shot. |

Nice to catch up for lunch with a Navy mate Ron Niperress and his wife. We served together at CRESWELL more than 30 years ago. |
