Day 47: Mon 23 June 25 - Bargara to Howard

Mon 23 June 25 - Bargara to Howard (104km)

Weather: 14 to 23 Deg, clear with light SE wind in the morning with light rain falling at Howard from midday for the remainder of the day and into the evening. 

After a beautiful sunrise and an early morning walk along local walking trails into the Mon Repos Turtle Sanctuary,  we packed up and left Bargara, heading for Howard via a coffee stop and wander around Childers. We arrived at Kev and Jo's place on 17 acres just outside of Howard a bit after midday. Shortly after setting the van up at the front of their house, the skies opened up and it continued to rain for the rest of the day, providing the perfect opportunity for a catch up onto the night. It got a bit cool in the evening with rain and a light breeze, but the fire in the pot belly made it very comfortable. It was a very enjoyable evening catching up.

Thu 8 May 25 - Home to Griffith (351km) Weather: 2 Deg at 06:00am at home, mostly clear all day with light winds reaching 18 Deg at Griffith Waiting for the nearby morning school hour traffic to subside, we eventually drove away from home shortly after 09:00am. This trip north to QLD has been delayed a few times, and we're happy to be finally back on the road again with the caravan. First destination is Griffith in the Riverina for a 3-night stay to visit Noeleene's brothers and their family's. Short stops on the way were at the Harden Murrumburrah Mill Silo Art, and life-size bronze statue commemorating the WW1 horse 'Bill the Bastard'. Continuing westward, we stopped at Temora for lunch, then at the Big Tennis Racquet in Barellan, Evonne Goolagong Cawly's birthplace. Day 64: Thu 10 Jul 25 - Inverell

Thu 10 Jul 25 - Inverell Weather: 4 to 14 Deg. Mostly clear with fresh westerly winds to 45km/h It was a cold morning and it stayed cold all day with the help of a very fresh westerly wind. It was slow to get going this morning, before eventually stepping out for a walk along the river and through town. After breakfast we drove 25 km out of town to the old tin mining town of Tingha on the Northern Tablelands. This small town with a rich history has produced a lot of notable national rugby league players for such a small town, but the main attraction for us today was a visit to the 'Wing Hing Long museum'. One word - fascinating, and the elderly volunteer ladies were amazing. The experience, and our interaction with the ladies was uplifting.  Wing Hing Long is a heritage-listed former store and now museum  built from 1881 to 1895, and  stocked every necessary item for living in the early days mining town, including clothing, food, cooking utensils and implements and even f...

Day 19: Mon 26 May 25 - Gladstone

Mon 26 May 25 - Gladstone Weather: 19 to 27 Deg, cloudy with a light breeze and 99% humidity - definitely not the winter weather that we are use to at home. My usual morning routine of making Noeleene a cup of coffee in bed while I went for a 5km walk over the Radar Hill trails, then back to Mum's to arrange some medical appointments and sort out telephone issues. Noel and I then drove about 30km out of town to the Calliope River Historical Village, a wonderful collection of buildings and displays from around the district. After strolling around for about 90 minutes, we checked out the nearby Calliope River Free Camps located on both sides of the river. We are leaving Gladstone on Thursday to stay in Yeppoon for a couple of weeks, and thinking about a stopover here for a couple of nights on our way back south.
