Day 6: Tue 13 May 25 - Mount Hope to Brewarinna

Tue 13 May 25 - Mount Hope to Brewarinna (420km)

Weather: 7 Deg at 06:00am, sunny becoming cloudy in the afternoon and reaching 26 Deg.

After a slow start and morning stroll around Mount Hope, we drove away at 08:45am still unsure of our destination today. The traffic was very quiet, but there was a lot of roadkill, especially kangaroos, some emus and goats. It seemed like a continuous herd of goats grazing along edge of the road between Cobar and Bourke, some testing me by crossing at the last moment, but we managed to avoid any strikes. The countryside looked wonderfully green with colourful bursts of wildflowers showing through. We arrived in Cobar in good time, topped up our water tanks, had a brew, then continued on towards Bourke. Although a little bumpy in places, all the roads today were in very good condition. We stopped to refuel in Bourke, and decided we still had a few Km's left in us, so continued another 98km to Brewarinna for the night. I did suggest to Noel that we free camp, but staying in Brewarinna in a secure caravan park (with locked gates and security cameras) was the only way we would be staying overnight in this town. At $25 a night for power and water, on a nice grassy site (albeit with lots of bindi's and cats eyes), and nice clean facilities, I couldn't argue. Leaving the van hooked up, we were set up relatively quickly, but the rest of the afternoon was spent fixing a dodgy toilet cassette which has been leaking. If I haven't fixed it now, it will need to be replaced ASAP. By the time I re-assembled the cassette, I had run out of daylight so I didn't get to go for a walk to look around town as planned, although by what i saw driving into town, I don't think I missed anything here anyway.

PS - looks like the knucklehead responsible for reconnecting the hose to the washing machine also forgot to reconnect the rear awning lights. Very frustrating.

Found the old school on my morning walk at Mount Hope

Obligatory photo stop on arrival in Cobar. Stayed here a couple of years ago, so no need to cover old ground this trip

Morning brew in Cobar beside an old Copper Mine.
