Day 60: Sun 6 Jul 25 - Kingaroy

Day 60  Sun 6 Jul 25 - Kingaroy

Weather: 8 to 22 Deg, Cloudy in the morning becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon.

After letting Olli out for his early morning nature call at 5:00, he kindly let us go back to sleep until 07:00am. After breakfast we went for a drive (11 km) to a local Bora Ring - a sacred aboriginal ceremonial site primarily used for initiation rituals. Not much to see here, so we continued another 18km through eucalyptus forests to Nanango - a quant historic rural town. There were several Koala warning signs on the roadside and sadly we saw one dead  koala that had been struck by a car. In Nanango after coffee and cake at a local bakery, we had a slow wander around town including some nice chats with locals, then we returned to the van for lunch. Noel stayed at the van for the afternoon and did some cleaning, while I got out of her way and went for a nice 20km ride around town and out along the rail trail to Crawford and back. Another short walk later in the afternoon filled our day before dinner and an early night.

Seven Mile Peter. This sculpture commemorates Peter Rossiter who was a Ukrainian immigrant who lived and worked at the Seven Mile Diggings near Nanango. He spent 30 years there, making a living selling eggs and vegetables from a wheelbarrow.

Seven Mile Peter, he thirsted for Gold,
He dug and he dug until he was old.
He didn't find much and never found fame,
Yet the Seven Mile Diggings still bear Peter's name.
