Day 58: Fri 4 Jul 25 - Wondai

Image
Fri 4 Jul 25 - Wondai Weather: Minus 1 to 21, clear and very light winds... or very cold this morning, and a beautiful warm sunny winter's day. After a slow start, I stepped outside for a walk around town then returned to cook us scrambled eggs for breakfast. Later in the morning, when the temperature had risen sufficiently, I climbed on the bike for a ride along the rail trail towards Kingaroy. Another 31km ride to  Wooroolin  in the opposite direction to yesterdays ride, and back. Apart from the slightest headwind heading out, it was perfect weather for a ride. Getting swooped by a magpie about 200m on the way back into Wondai gave me a bit of a surprise, and hurry up. No lunch needed after a big breaky, Noel and I (and Olli) headed into town for a late coffee and bought some fresh fish for me, and meat for Noel from the butcher for dinner. A bit of a rest and some admin, along with a few of short walks filled the afternoon and evening.    Morning walk around Wonda...

Thu 3 Jul 25 - Howard to Wondai (Towed 177km) Weather: 7 to 17 Deg, clear with light SW winds - it's getting colder! We finally drove away from Kev and Jo's today at 09:30am after a most enjoyable visit. I think it's fair to say we all enjoyed each others company, and it's hard to believe that we were there for 10 days. Our destination today was Wondai along the Kingaroy to Kilkivan Rail Trail for a couple of days of riding (for me anyway). We had intended to stay at the 48hr Free Camp in Wondai, but it was quite busy, so we ended up at the show grounds instead. It's very quiet, lots of open space, clean new facilities, and good value at $25 per night for power and water. We do have to vacate before 09:00 on Saturday for the local races next door. It's no problem, as we only have 32km to drive to Kingaroy on Sat for a 2-3 night stay at the show grounds to ride the other end of the rail trail. First stop after leaving Howard was Goomeri for a late morning coffee,...
