Day 67: Sun 13 Jul 25 - Cowra to Home (and Trip Stats)

Image
Sun 13 Jul 25 - Cowra to Home (Towed 177km) Weather: 0 Deg, frost and fog in Cowra to a max of 12 Deg and clear at home. Our winter days of shorts and t-shirts have well and truly ended for this year. After waking early, we had a warming cuppa, then I went for a quick walk across the bridge into town for a look around. There's a lot of interest things to see in Cowra, for example the Japanese Gardens, Prisoner of War Campsite and War Cemetery. We have seen them before, and we're keen to see them again, but that will be for another visit. I returned from my walk to scrape the ice off the windscreen and finished getting ready for the final leg of our trip home. While Noel finished prepping the inside of the van, I quickly popped across the road to Maccas to grab a couple of takeaway coffees and a bite to eat, then we were on our way. It was a very quiet Sunday morning drive, but thick fog in places called for some extra caution driving. Overall, it was a very picturesque and than...

Day 66: Sat 12 Jul 25 - Gunnedah to Cowra

Sat 12 Jul 25 - Gunnedah to Cowra (Towed 435km)  Weather: 2 Deg, feeling like minus 1, reaching a top of 15 Deg, clear with light winds, feeling fresh again all day. Another cold start to the day, and after a walk around town we hit the road aiming for Molong via Coolah, Dunedoo and Wellington. I was bit worried about the minor road that I took to Coolah instead of driving via Coonabarabran, but while a it was bit rough in places and hilly, it was very quiet. It turned out that I had nothing to be worried about. We stopped at Coolah for morning coffee and had a walk around. Not much to see here, just another lovely small country town. We continued on our way and had another quick stop at Dunedoo at the painted silo (Winx), and pushed on to about 7 km north of Wellington for a longer break including a bite to eat. This stop at a gravel pit was overlooking a massive solar farm. Sending the drone up for a few snaps revealed just how large the farm is - quite staggering really. A googl...

Day 65: Fri 11 Jul 25 - Inverell to Gunnedah

Image
Fri 11 Jul 25 - Inverell to Gunnedah (Towed 255km via Delungra, Bingara, Barraba and Manilla)  Weather: It was unexpectedly cold last night - very cold - minus 1 with apparent temperature at minus 4 🥶🥶 was recorded on the BOM, but I’m certain it was colder where we were.  The day only reached 16 Deg in the late afternoon, mostly clear all day but very chilly with a SW wind. We woke this morning to no water as the taps and hoses were frozen solid.  We had to use the tank water instead until after we left. We couldn’t use the diesel heater either as diesel turned to gel and the heater kept cutting out, thankfully we were able to use the air conditioner heater instead, but it wasn't very effective. It was still zero Deg at 08:00am as I started packing up, and rolling up a frozen power cable, water hose and grey water hose was no fun. Needless to say, no morning walk today. We eventually drove away from Inverell at 09:15am and it was a bit of a zig zaggy drive along minor r...
